Are you self-conscious about your protruding ears? Is it difficult to wear hats?
Otoplasty (a.k.a. ear pinning) is a cosmetic procedure performed to correct protruding ears. At Cruise Plastic Surgery, Dr. Cruise offers his expertise in otoplasty, a procedure tailored to enhance the natural balance of your features. With a focus on achieving subtle yet significant improvements, Dr. Cruise understands the unique concerns men have about their appearance.
The procedure is quite straightforward and is typically performed in-office under local anesthesia.
The amount of correction you desire will be discussed during the consultation process. Dr. Cruise will create a discreet incision behind the ear, where the scar will be well hidden. Through this incision, he reshapes the cartilage by removing a small amount, suturing it to create natural curvature, or folding it back toward the head to reduce prominence. In some cases, additional adjustments are made to correct asymmetry or refine the ear’s overall shape. Once the desired contour is achieved, the incision is closed carefully, and a protective dressing is applied to support healing.
Adult men who are in good general health, bothered by the appearance of their ears, and have realistic expectations about the surgical outcome are typically good candidates for otoplasty with Dr. Cruise.

General recovery time is 2-3 days. The ears will be swollen, red/bruised, with sutures behind them. A protective headband will be necessary for several weeks, especially at night. Strenuous activity, contact sports will need to be avoided for 1 to 2 months. More information about otoplasty can be found here.
Initial changes are visible immediately after surgery once the bandages are removed. The results of otoplasty are generally considered permanent, although minor changes can occur with aging. The final, refined results will become more apparent as swelling subsides over several weeks to a few months, revealing a more balanced and natural ear position.
“Dear Joseph T Cruise, MD’. That is how my first letter began. Now look, I am writing to you again, this time to thank you for the life-long gift you have given me. You may not have saved my life, but you have certainly changed it with your generosity. When plastic surgery seemed out of the question, you gave me a chance...You have given me much more than a surgery; you have given me a life experience to remember, and a special type of joy that cannot easily be explained. I couldn’t thank you enough for this feeling. I have my whole life ahead of me, and I hope to meet other people just like you. People that help, not out of self-interest, but help because of genuine sympathy and a giving nature. Actions like yours make life sweet. ” Keola, 17 - Ear Surgery
