The procedure is quite straightforward and is typically performed in-office under local anesthesia.
The amount of correction you desire will be discussed during the consultation process. Dr. Cruise will create a discreet incision behind the ear, where the scar will be well hidden. Through this incision, he reshapes the cartilage by removing a small amount, suturing it to create natural curvature, or folding it back toward the head to reduce prominence. In some cases, additional adjustments are made to correct asymmetry or refine the ear’s overall shape. Once the desired contour is achieved, the incision is closed carefully, and a protective dressing is applied to support healing.

General recovery time is 2-3 days. The ears will be swollen, red/bruised, with sutures behind them. A protective headband will be necessary for several weeks, especially at night. Initial changes are visible immediately after surgery once the bandages are removed. The results of otoplasty are generally considered permanent, although minor changes can occur with aging. The final, refined results will become more apparent as swelling subsides over several weeks to a few months, revealing a more balanced and natural ear position.
