Jewel named Spokesperson for First Annual Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and The Plastic Surgery Foundation (The PSF) have joined together to launch the first annual National Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day on October 17th, 2012. Scheduled to take place during Breast Cancer Awareness month, BRA day will be celebrated in the US and 20 other countries.
Award winning singer-songwriter, best selling author and philanthropist Jewel has been named as the national spokesperson. Over the next 20 years Jewel will be advocating on behalf of BRA day through public appearanaces and a benefit concern which she will be performing a song she has written honoring breast reconstruction patients. The charity event will take place on October 20th in New Orleans during Plastic Surgery The Meeting.
According to research 7 of 10 women diagnosed with breast cancer remain uninformed about their reconstruction options. These options could provide more fulffillemnt and enhanced quality of life after cancer. The goal of National BRA Day is to provide awareness and education to all breast cancer patients..
