How Long Until I Can Exercise After Mommy Makeover?

Mommy makeovers are a popular procedure option for mothers who want to improve their confidence after pregnancy. One of the most common questions that patients have during a mommy makeover consultation is how long it will take before they can resume most of their regular daily activities after surgery. Dr. Cruise will answer this and all of your questions during your consultation visit. In the meantime, here are some things to know about a mommy makeover recovery.

What is a Mommy Makeover Surgery?

A mommy makeover is a combination of plastic surgery procedures intended to address the unwanted changes that can occur as a result of pregnancy and/or breastfeeding. Common procedures that make up a  mommy makeover include a breast lift with or without augmentation, abdominoplasty,  liposuction and Brazilian butt lift. Mommy makeovers are highly customizable procedures that can be adjusted to suit each individual patients’ concerns, aesthetic goals, and needs. During a consultation, you can work with Dr. Cruise to develop a plan for your mommy makeover that will restore your confidence.

How Can I Prepare for Mommy Makeover Recovery?

During your consultation, Dr. Cruise can give you specific instructions to prepare for your mommy makeover recovery. One of the benefits of a mommy makeover is completing the recovery process for multiple procedures simultaneously rather than doubling the total recovery time by staging the procedures. Generally speaking, you can expect about two weeks of downtime after the surgery and a total of about 12 weeks for recovery. For the first week after surgery, you will experience swelling and soreness. You will be given pain medication and should avoid bending at the waist or lifting heavy objects. This means that you should plan for someone to help care for your children and yourself in the early stages of recovery. It is also important to stay hydrated and to plan easy-to-prepare, nutritious meals during the healing process.

When Can I Exercise After My Mommy Makeover?

The length of downtime before you can return to your exercise routine will vary after a mommy makeover. Considerations like the procedures you have included, the type of exercise you prefer, and other factors will all play a role. Generally speaking, you should wait at least four weeks before attempting any strenuous activity. When you do return to exercise, you should begin with low-intensity workouts such as jogging or cycling at a casual pace. Be sure to pay close attention to your body to prevent over-exerting yourself or risking complications. As you return to a workout routine, it is usually advised to continue wearing any compression garments or supportive surgical or sports bras according to Dr. Cruise’s advice. Through post-op appointments, Dr. Cruise will monitor your healing process and advise when you can resume specific types of workouts.
