Jessica Morris, Assistant Manager, Donates Kidney

Our assistant manager and patient advocate at Cruise Plastic Surgery, Jessica Morris, has donated a kidney to save a stranger’s life! We are very proud of her and are honored to have such a caring and compassionate person as part of our team!

The Decision to Donate

Last December, Morris made the decision to donate a kidney to a person in dire need to survive “I always knew that (donating a kidney) is something I would do in my lifetime,” Morris said. “I don’t understand why more people don’t donate.”

Morris ended up donating her kidney to David Nicherie, a 29-year-old man who was dying of a chronic inflammatory bowel disease and an unrelated immune disease that had attacked his kidneys. He was on the transplant list, but the doctors said it would be at least 15 years until he received a kidney.

As a final, desperate attempt to get better, Nicherie posted an ad in the community section of Craigslist, asking for a donor. Many people replied asking to be paid for donating their kidney, while others never seemed to come through. Then, he got a message from Morris.

“I was 100 percent skeptical,’’ Nicherie said. “I assumed it was a scam. She was very to the point when I started talking to her more, but I had already been burned.”

However, Morris was serious about helping our Nicherie, and began the necessary preparations. Morris needed to undergo months of tests, lab work, x-rays, and psychiatric evaluation. Finally, Morris got the green light to donate her kidney on June 12, 2018.

“I think it’s awesome to be able to help someone,” Morris said about the process.
