Chin augmentation is the fastest growing cosmetic surgery procedure according to new statistics released by The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). The rise in popularity is partly attributed to the utilization of cameras, with programs like Skype and Facetime, socially and in the workplace.

The ASPS states that chin augmentation procedures in 2011 grew more that breast augmentation, Botox, and liposuctions combined. There was a 71% increase in procedures from 2010. The procedure skyrocketed in both women and men, as well as in all patients over the age of 20. The largest increases were with men and patients over 40.

The chin and jaw line are among the first areas to show signs of aging. People are considering chin augmentation as a way to restore their youthful look just like a facelift or eyelid surgery,” said ASPS President Malcolm Z. Roth, MD. “We also know that as more people see themselves on video chat technology, they may notice that their jaw line is not as sharp as they want it to be. Chin implants can make a dramatic difference.”
