Breast Augmentation Surgeon Announces New Caution Information for Patients Considering Breast Augmentation

An increasing number of breast augmentation patients are being referred to Cruise Plastic Surgery to correct poor results from other surgeons. In most cases, Dr. Joseph Cruise notes that a breast lift with augmentation should have been performed, which has prompted him to issue a caution and provide information to try and reduce the need for revision surgery.

Why Patients Need Dr. Cruise For Revision Surgery

As a recognized breast augmentation and breast lift specialist in Newport Beach, Dr. Joseph T. Cruise is seeing more and more complications referred to him. He notes that most of these cases are due to the surgeon performing a breast augmentation when, in fact, the patient needed a breast lift with augmentation.

“The sad part about breast augmentation and breast lift revision surgery is that patients have little choice but to undergo surgery again, and it can be emotionally and financially draining,” mentioned Joseph T Cruise, MD.

Breast Lift With Augmentation Instead Of Breast Augmentation

Breast lift with augmentation is considered to be one of the most difficult procedures in plastic surgery today. This is why some surgeons choose the easy way out by only performing a breast augmentation, and, because of this, Dr. Joseph Cruise is advising prospective patients that it is critical to seek out a highly skilled and experienced plastic surgeon.

The main complication Joseph T Cruise, MD is seeing with the patients referred to him is implant malposition. The breast implant is either bottoming out or travels into the armpit region or both. Either situation is uncomfortable for the patient and creates an unattractive result. The combination of a breast augmentation with a lift is considered to be one of the most difficult to perform, because there are two procedures going on simultaneously. One is the breast lift which reduces the breast, the other is breast augmentation which enlarges it. These conflicting procedures make it very difficult to predictably put everything into the proper position. This is where experience becomes critical.

When surgeons try to avoid the breast lift all together, they tend to utilize two techniques. They use a larger implant to try and create a lift and fill up the breast space, and lower the breast fold to raise the nipple so it appears the breast is in better position. Both of these techniques are not anatomic. Lowering the breast fold destroys the support system of the breast, and placing a large implant into a breast that has already demonstrated it cannot support its own breast tissue weight doesn’t make sense. The correction of the implant malposition is far more difficult than simply doing the correct procedure the first time around; the breast lift. Correcting the malpositioned implant relies on securing a tight pocket in an area that has already been violated and no longer offers a good support system.

Using The Submuscular Technique

Dr. Joseph T. Cruise has a unique technique that he uses for his breast augmentation and breast lift with augmentation patients, which is to put the implant under complete submuscular coverage. This technique is more challenging when it has already been operated on but the muscles that line the rib cage are very robust and are more than capable of holding the revised implant in proper position. The muscles used to hold the implant up and prevent it from migrating into the arm pit are the pectoralis minor and the serratus anterior. The combination of performing a breast lift by securing a tight pocket for the implant and placing it under complete submuscular coverage, provides Joseph T Cruise, MD’s revision patients attractive longer lasting results.
