Joseph T Cruise, MD's Rhinoplasty Philosophy

Rhinoplasty is one of my favorite cosmetic surgery procedures. I enjoy the technical nature of the procedure as it allows me to use my skills to the fullest. For this reason I have joined The Rhinoplasty Society; an exclusive, non-profit organization dedicated to the open exchange of innovative ideas and techniques concerning rhinoplasty surgery. The Society consists of surgeons throughout the World who specialize in this procedure.

I find nose surgery to be very satisfying, because the results are quite dramatic and the effect it has on my patients is profound. This one procedure alone can provide significant facial balance and harmony. There is no other procedure in plastic surgery that requires such artistic finesse and technical ability.

Most of the surgeries I perform are done so using a closed rhinoplasty technique, also called endonasal rhinoplasty. This approach means all of the incisions are made inside the nostrils. No part of the internal incisions can be seen externally and a visible scar is avoided. This technique takes great skill and experience because the nostril incisions remain disconnected, repositioning of the nasal skin is difficult and the entire operation must be conducted through narrow surgical openings with limited visibility. This technique requires great care, skill, and experience in order to avoid potential complications. Complicated cases may require the use of the open rhinoplasty approach, which does require an external incision. The necessary technique is determined during the consultation.

Your rhinoplasty consultation will consist of us taking digital 3D images your face and nose from multiple angles. I will then examine your nose both externally and internally, as well as have you tell me what bothers you and what you are hoping to accomplish with surgery. At this point, I will digitally alter the pictures of your nose to demonstrate what you will likely achieve by having rhinoplasty. This is a very powerful tool as it helps me understand exactly what you are looking to achieve. No result can be guaranteed, but I can tell you with great certainty that it will be very close if not right on.
