Don’t Fear the “D!”

Patients consulting with Joseph T Cruise, MD for breast augmentation almost always request a “natural look.” They shy away from a D size or larger because they are fearful of the Pamela Anderson look. They routinely ask for a full B or small C without really understanding how sizing correlates to breast implants. When women see other women who appear to have a D size or larger, all they notice is how large and drooping the breasts appear. And, in a push-up bra they tend to look overwhelmingly cumbersome, which can make a woman look heavier than they really are. In reality a “natural” D cup looks much larger than a D implant. Breast implants are structured and the volume is contained in a shell, while natural breast tissue hangs downward. The more a woman has the more the tissue hangs.

Why Women Should Size Up

Women who choose a more conservative breast implant size will definitely look better than they did prior to surgery, however most will be left wishing they had gone bigger. For example, a patient who selects a C size implant will look very nice in a bikini, but their new breasts will still get lost in clothing. Women typically want to have some noticeable volume in their clothing and often times this just isn’t the case with a smaller implant. There are even a fair number of patients who select a small D size implant that wish they were larger. The solution is to completely throw away any preconceived ideas about bra sizing and what has been seen on other women. It’s not the bra size that matters, rather it’s what looks best on a woman’s body.

Look At Photos Pre-Surgery

In order to alleviate disappointment following breast augmentation, Joseph T Cruise, MD has created an elaborate photo library, which shows examples of various body types, breast shapes and sizes, healing progress photos and post-operative photos shown in the nude, with a bikini and in clothing. During the consultation Joseph T Cruise, MD meticulously goes over sizing, upper breast fullness, lower breast shape and cleavage. He also takes thorough measurements of the patient’s chest and takes into consideration height, weight and body shape. Lastly, Joseph T Cruise, MD has developed a mentoring program where previous breast augmentation patients can offer support, feedback and personal experience to aid a patient through their surgical experience. By utilizing all of these innovative strategies, patients are able to confidently choose the ideal implant size, so they are fully satisfied following their breast augmentation surgery.
